| How to Choose a Secure Space? |
| Last Modified at:21-Aug-2011 |
Didi Harrari, Eric Halper, Sivan Rahav-Meir and other celebrities take part in the new Home Front Command campaign, encouraging the public to choose a secure space and prepare it for an emergency.
The Home Front Command regularly conducts various engineering and explosives experiments simulating the impact of rockets and missiles attacks. The results of these experiments certify that staying in a secure space during an attack may save lives.
From the early 90's buildings were planned to include Residential Secure Spaces (MAMAD) and Story-Wide Secure Spaces (MAMAK). These spaces are built with concrete walls and designed to withstand attacks.
In buildings that include neither, it is recommended to choose and prepare an interior secure space according to the following criteria:
A space with the least possible amount of external walls, windows, doors and other openings
A space as far away from the known direction of threat
A space with the smallest extent of breakables (mirrors, tiles, glass etc.)
All heavy articles should be taken away
In the event of a chemical threat, the space should include plastic sheets and adhesive tape to seal and support the openings
